Leather Jackets of London

This San Franciscan photographer took herself over to the UK and France for the months of September & October. While there I visited my former second home of London, a wondrous city I lived in for two years. I simply love it there. While thrilled to be living in SF again, I got to see old friends while abroad, and also got the opportunity to take some street portraits around London, which is a sartorial dream, with people full of creativity and who also quite often have such a "London" look about them.

When in London it is easy to take pictures of every well dressed denizen one comes across, but this time 'round I wanted to do something more focused. I was looking to pick out patterns that seemed very 'London' to me. I wanted to discover what made you look at a person and see that they are truly part of the living organism of the London streets - an aesthetic emblem - each with their unique interpretations, but who have all grown to feed off the history of the city and had it bleed into their sartorial choices, so that when you look at them you don't just think 'London fashion' you think 'London.' One major theme I found was  the way these Brits interpret the classic leather biker jacket, which is so intrinsically linked within British fashion history, and how they wear them today.

These photos along with some of my other street portraits (and patterns) from London were featured and dissected by the insurmountably talented writer of Spitafields Life.
